Public Workshops
Workshops are limited to 6 to 8 people in order for each participant to receive individual attention. Our studio includes all the equipment and supplies required for introductory and advanced classes. We are located in the heart of Saluda with ample free parking.
Introduction to Fusing Glass

This 3-hour workshop will introduce you to all you need to know to start making your own functional glass creations. You will learn glass cutting techniques, proper use of tools, how glass behaves when heated in a kiln, and basic design principles and construction. Projects include a salad plate, votive candle holder, and small ring dish.
Glass is a versatile and ancient material and provides endless possibilities for you to find your creative groove. This is a great getting started class that will keep you coming back for more fusing experiences.

Glass Totem

Fusible glass comes in large sheets in a variety of colors that can be cut into desired shapes and forms. But what if you want something unique, graphic, and fanciful? Well, you make your own glass of course! In this two-part workshop, you will learn several ways to create your own designs on glass by using glass powders, glass enamels, silk screens and stencils. Each student will make small “glass parts” to be used in constructing a vertical garden totem in a black metal frame or as a wall hanging.
Day one is a four-hour session for making your glass parts that will be fired in preparation for day two. On day two you will construct your vertical totem or wall hanging. (Day 2 will be scheduled during day 1.) No previous experience is necessary. Just come with a playful heart as we explore ways to make graphic glass art.

Mosaic Table

Create this sturdy 18” circular table with a mosaic design of your own. This functional piece can be used indoors or outdoors, great on a deck or porch. Mary Ann Everett will take you through the steps of this ancient glass art and provide you with the skills and knowledge to continue mosaic on your own.
Day one and day two will be dedicated to designing and fabricating your table top. We will take a break for carry in lunch or you can bring your own. Sunday will be the day to grout, approximately 2 hours. Select your glass colors and watch your design take form as you work each mosaic piece. It’s fun, it’s rewarding and it’s your one-of-a-kind creative table!

Every Garden Needs Glass

When all the blooms are gone you can have continuous color in your garden with a whimsical, abstract or expressive glass creation. Your finished piece will be mounted in a black metal stand for outdoor display in either a round or diamond shape and can be kept outdoors through all seasons. All glass materials and stands are provided. No previous fusing experience is necessary. You will learn glass cutting skills, how glass behaves when heated and how to construct a joyful design. Come join the fun with fellow makers in an inspiring studio with an experienced and enthusiastic instructor.

Bohemian Necklace Workshop

This workshop will begin being offered in 2025
Susan Cannon teams up with Hanna Toland, Bead Weaver to collaborate with you on the design of three funky or elegant necklaces. You will create glass pendants made with dichroic glass, crushed glass in a mold and pieces of fusible glass embellished with decals or other elements. You will also select a variety of glass, metal, wood or ceramic beads to string on a cord to complement your pendants. Knotting and stringing techniques will be taught so you will have well constructed and unique necklaces for yourself or for gifts. No previous glass or beading experience is necessary. 3.5 hours.

Design Your Own Lantern

Lanterns have been used for centuries to light the way. Let’s turn function into creative art and go beyond the ordinary. In this class you will create four panels of your own design. Go for abstract, hummingbirds, butterflies, whimsical, colorful. They will put eye catching color on your porch, on your deck, mantle or yard. The lanterns are sturdy, powder coated and measure 18” high by 8” wide.

They may remind you of lollipops, balloons, poppies, or polka dots! Wherever your mind takes you these will certainly let the sunshine in when placed in or near a window. These happy little guys are made by cutting and assembling glass strips, squares and circles. Simple and clear instructions and guidance will be provided. Make them any color combination from stem to bubble and enjoy the result. These make wonderful gifts for yourself or friends.

Retro Stacks

Remember Op Art? Andy Warhol Soup Cans? Hippie print dresses? The 60s polka dots? Make a comeback with glass stacks that suggest those days. Layered pieces of glass in multi colors create interesting effects and fun designs. The end result of this workshop is an 8x8 functional plate. Square, round, long, short, dots and more shapes are all you need to make this very happy addition to your home. No previous glass cutting experience necessary. Just come and STACK!

Mosaic Stepping Stone

A heart, butterfly, star, flower, dog bone….one of these can be your pallet for a riot of color. Mosaic stepping stones are vibrant accents in a garden or along a pathway. Make one that is uniquely yours in this 3 and a half hour workshop. Previous mosaic experience is required for this workshop. Take a mosaic rock or switch plate class before this workshop and you will be set to go.

River rock comes in all sizes and colors but did you know these gifts of nature can also be a creative inspiration? In this relaxing workshop you will use the mosaic process to create your own little picture on stone. You will learn the Fundamentals of Mosaics including how to choose, cut, arrange, adhere and grout mosaic glass pieces. Your piece will be done for you to take home. This is a great launch to making more on your own.

Beginning Mosaic Mirror Workshop

Make a mosaic mandala mirror piece with visiting instructor Mary Ann Everett of Riviera Arts. This fast-start workshop is designed for curious makers to discover the amazing practice of mosaic art.
Learn to make a colorful 12” mirror design. A variety of colorful vitreous and stained glass, ceramic shapes, bead chains, and millefiori will be available for your unique design. No previous mosaic or glass cutting experience is required. You’ll leave with the skills and resources to continue making mosaics at home!
Closed-toe shoes and eye wear are recommended. Not for children 12 & under.

Batik
Thursday, August 29 | 1 pm to 4pm | $110
In this workshop we will combine sheet glass with layers of glass powders to achieve a texture that emulates batik fabrics. People often think the batiks are ceramic with their deep marks. Participants will experiment with color, powder blending and mark making. Once fired, pieces can be cut, slumped or mounted for wall art.

Private Group Workshops
Custom workshops are available for families, friend groups, Church groups, craft/art groups, and children 10 and up. Please call to discuss workshop choice, fees and available dates. These private sessions are a great way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings. Experience the fun as you see the creativity of your group emerge.
Studio Time
Once you attend any glass fusing workshop you are welcome to come for a three-hour session to work on an individual project. You will receive guidance from Susan Cannon while you work on your ideas. Studio Time is $25 for three hours, the cost of materials and firing fees, depending on your project.
Studio Time can be booked Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, daytime or evenings. Please call to discuss your project and book a work session.
